A Tribute...

So much of my design style can be attributed to my mother Patricia and grandmother Lillie. Whether it was my grandmother's love of flowers or my mother's affinity for painted furniture and antique quilts — I see how their influences have shaped my love of design and all things that make a house a home. My grandmother passed away many years ago, but my memories of her are still so strong in my mind — especially this time of year. Shortly after Thanksgiving, she would always call on me to come help decorate her house for Christmas. Not because she needed the help, but because she knew how much I loved it. The ruralist aspects of my design style are definitely inherited from my mother. Worn woods, distressed painted finishes, candle light, and layers of homespun textiles — all are passions for her. I took the time yesterday to truly reflect on all that I am thankful for. To everyone that loves and supports me, I am sincerely grateful. I am blessed with a partner whose unconditional love often seems heroic to me. I am blessed with a family that always keeps things interesting. And I am blessed that these two beautiful women have made me the man I am today.

  4. How beautiful and lovely to hear from a son. I have two, and often wonder if what I do to bring beauty and my own version of culture into their lives, is happening!! If I ever evoke such senitments from mine, I will be very grateful.Truly lovely, James. N.
