Towering Topiary...

What a balancing act! Still, I adore it.

Oh so quiet...

These beautiful photographs by Lucy Snowe
capture the wonderful quiet and fantasy
of a first snow.

Favorite scent for the season...

It is time for my favorite scent for the season —
Diptyque's Feu de Bois. French for "wood fire" — the fragrance
evokes the warm, comforting aroma of rare woods burned
on a long winter day. November through March, it
always seems to set the right mood.

Rue has me Feeling Good...

And this old world is a new world
and a bold world
for me.
Much thanks to the folks at Rue for creating
such a brilliant issue. Talk about being absolutely packed
with one splendor after another — this issue even tops
their debut! So many great features including a
wonderful holiday piece on designer and stylist
Scot Meacham Wood. I can't wait to go back and
peruse it all again.

Here's hoping you have a colorful Saturday...

So many things to love about this vignette — courtesy of

A keen eye and lots of charm...

It is obvious designer Michael Klein has both.

Anthropologie's Christmas Displays...

It always surprises me how Anthropologie's
crafty ways never look cheap or tacky.
Instead, they always look well-thought-out,
homespun, and artisanal. Just take a look
at these pretty frayed fabric pinecones.
Here, a little tree farm has been constructed using
live and soft-sculpture trees.
I love the mix of true, organic materials
and their stylized, handcrafted facsimiles.
Here is a fantastic display of clocks
counting down the days until Christmas.
Hmmm. I might have to steal
this simple idea.
I love the paper cone tree on the left.
This display certainly keeps your eyes moving.
Crazy for this! Especially that knitted chain garland.
Pure holiday fantasy!
Sweet, isn't it? Just look at that little wreath
on the door.
My favorite window!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Stellen Straw available at Finderskeepers Market...

These are so pretty hung in front of an
old painted mirror. ($14 -$24)

Edie van Breem's Christmas Magic...

The case clock and wheat arrangements certainly
speak of van Breem's Scandinavian heritage.
I love the wheat mixed with boxwood in this
wreath hanging above a 19th-century
painted-wood bench.
Both the table and its trappings are just lovely.
I especially like the simplicity of the goose-feather
tree in that wonderful copper pot.
What a beautiful holiday display!
The table is a 70-year-old clam-shucking table.
A 200-year-old dowry chest from Lapland holds
cozy blankets and a stellen straw star. We
sell these wonderful stellen decorations at
Finderskeepers Market.
Here is that Christmas magic I mentioned.
Check out Edie van Breem's shop for more
of her Scandinavian-inspired items.

Physical Beauty meets Handsome Interiors...

OK, I know the vintage luggage, shoe ladder, and perfectly
distressed leather chair are secondary in this photo —
still, they are handsome accents for this portrait
of British model David Gandy.
David is best know for his breathtaking advertisement
for Dolce & Gabbana's fragrance Light Blue.
The rugged masculinity of these interiors really does
mirror all the character in that handsome face.

Away on the Mantle...

These are just a few of my favorites from
Lonny's recent online mantle feature.
Of course I have to start off with this
NVR masterpiece.
All together, this is just a great space — but that mantle
definitely has a starring role.
Moody and playful at the same time. That's rare.
I have posted this image before, but I couldn't
resit including it in this mantle showcase.
It is certainly all about the artwork!
The massive mantle or those extra-wide floorboards?
Where do I look first?

Ryan Korban's Bedroom on Lonny...

I am so in love with this space! I know it has
been blogged about many times, but I just
had to give it the ol' NVR thumbs up. From
the artwork, to the accessories and color choices —
I think everything is just perfect.

Dollhouse Revisited...

Now faded and worn, I am sure this dollhouse was once
the ultimate prized possession of little Nancy Allen.
In its current state, it would now be a prized possession
of mine. (1st dibs)

Norwegian Mountain Cabin...

So cozy.
Full of personality.
Form and function.
Visually restful and relaxed.
